Our contemporary modern class provides students with working knowledge of contemporary modern dance technique.  Innovative and traditional modern dance styling with continuing emphasis on developing the body as an expressive instrument.

Summer Art Camp 2011
This season at:
Leaps N’ Bounds Dance Space

The 4 week summer art camp will be held at the Leaps N’ Bounds Dance Space.
July 11, 2011 – August 5, 2011.
8:00am-4:00pm  (*Extended care is available*)

The curriculum consists of dance and art work integrated to create a cumulative curriculum. 
During the 4 weeks ahead children ages 6-12 will learn a variety of the following:
–Movement styles such as:  Yoga, creative dance, hip hop, theatre, drumming.
–Artwork such as:  drawing, painting, play writing, poetry, rhyming, hieoglyphs, spoken word and a variety of other projects.
–Cooking vegetarian dishes from:  Africa, Thailand, Germany, Japan, France, China, South America, Vietnam

RECENT EVENT

Summer Camp 2010
This season at:
Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock

The 11 week curriculum was held at the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock summer art camp, and was held at the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock June 21, 2010-September 3, 2010. 

The curriculum consisted of dance/theatre, international vegetarian cooking and culturally influenced art work was created by Sara I. Benavidez, Founder, Artistic Director of Leaps N’ Bounds Dance Summer Camp Curriculum. 


During the 11 weeks children ages 5-11 years old learned a variety of the following:
–Movement styles such as:  Ballet, Modern dance, Jazz dance, Yoga, Patterning, Creative Movement, Play Writing, Danza Azteca, Capoeira and Tae Kwon Do.
–Artwork such as:  Hieoglyphs and Katakana writing, African doll making, Native American weaving, and many other projects.
–Cooking such as:  Pho, African Yam Soup, Cacciatore, Apple Kuchen and a wide variety of celebratory foods.

Every Friday students hosted an art show & short performance for parents and relatives.

Winter Camp 2009
This season is at: 
Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock

The 1 week winter art camp held at the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock will be held January 4-8, 2009. 

The curriculum consisting of dance/theatre, international vegetarian cooking and culturally influenced art work was created by Sara I. Benavidez, Founder, Artistic Director of Leaps N’ Bounds Dance Winter Camp Curriculum. 


During the single week children ages 5-11 years old will learn a variety of the following:
–Movement styles such as:  Ballet, Modern dance, Jazz dance, Yoga, Patterning, Creative Movement, Play Writing, Danza Azteca, Capoeira and Tae Kwon Do.
–Artwork such as:  Hieoglyphs and Katakana writing, African doll making and Native American weaving.
–Cooking such as:  Pho, African Yam Soup, Cacciatore and Apple Kuchen

The last day of camp will consisted of children ages 5 years old – 11 years old participating in an art show & short performance.

Leaps N’ Bounds Dance Class Reel

The class consists of Horton technique studies such as,
Flatback, preludes, fortifications & other modern dance techniques.  We also do some Afro-Cuban movement.

The curriculum consisting of dance/theatre, international vegetarian cooking and culturally influenced art work was created by Sara I. Benavidez, Founder, Artistic Director of Leaps N’ Bounds Dance Summer Camp Curriculum. 


Over 11 weeks children ages 5-11 years old learned:
–Movement styles such as:  Ballet, Modern dance, Jazz dance, Yoga, Patterning, Creative Movement, Play Writing, Danza Azteca, Capoeira and Tae Kwon Do.
–Artwork such as:  Hieoglyphs and Katakana writing, African doll making and Native American weaving.
–Cooking such as:  Pho, African Yam Soup, Cacciatore and Apple Kuchen 

It was a blast!!  I always learn so much from kids!

The last week of camp consisted of children ages 5 years old – 11 years old participating in artwork such as: Brazilian carnival masks, Mexica rattles, pinatas; dance theatre consisted of: drumming, traditional Native American dancing and cooking consisted of: South-West Native American rice.

Leaps N’ Bounds Dance welcomes new dancers!

Christina Nova Zych

Christina is from Lake Hughes California, and recently graduated from California Institute for the Arts. Christina is very excited to be involved with Leaps N’ Bounds Dance for the fall 2009 season. Eventually, Christina hopes to one day start her own modern dance circus.

Kristopher Jones

Kristopher Jones is new to Leaps N’ Bounds Dance.  Kris has danced professionally in Los Angeles since 1990.  His past company experience includes Los Angeles Ballet, Lula Washington Dance Theatre.  His touring and music credits are Phantom, Tommy, Showboat, Spirit, Violet, Aida and Disney’s Aladdin.  His most recent performance was with City Ballet performing a 60’s version of Peter & the Wolf at the Ford amphitheatre.  Kristopher has also worked commercially in Los Angeles as well as performing in the Academy Awards and in movies such as, Cinderella, which stared Whoopie Goldberg, and Walking Hard starring John C. Reily.

Skye Noel

Skye just moved to LA after completing her MFA in Acting at ART/Harvard, June 2009. She has danced professionally for over 10 years with several companies from around the world. Most recently with Vital Spark Dance Company of Orlando, FL. She’s also performed with Southern Dance Theatre, Orlando Ballet, North Carolina Ballet, and the Bordeaux Ballet of France. She is thankful to have this opportunity to work with Leaps N’ Bounds Dance and to stretch herself artistically in the LA area and would like to thank her parents for their unending love and support.


Timothy Tristan

Tim is a professional dancer in modern, contemporary, ballet, jazz, hip hop, swing, latin, interpretive, improv, lyrical, dance drama.  Tim is a dancer with Leaps N’ Bounds Dance for the fall 2009 season, as well as serving as the Media Coordinator on behalf of DancerTim.

Auditioning Dancers for Fall Season

Leaps N’ Bounds Dance & Fitness is a contemporary dance company dedicated to providing quality dance performances while using thought-provoking movement and staging to express controversial issues. 

We are currently seeking dancers trained in modern dance and ballet technique for the fall season. Some shows of the season will be staged in site-specific locations, so dancers must be open to using common pedestrian locations as performance arenas. Also, dancers must be available to attend company classes and rehearsals.

Interested dancers should submit a resume, headshot and short biography to sara@leapsnboundsfitness.org for consideration and further details.

Sara danced with CDT (Compton Dance Theatre Foundation) in their Summer Concert and Debut, Troy Powell’s New Suite "Hide & Seek".
